. A Hail Mary for the Kurds

. As I am dictating this on the evening of Monday, October 21, 2019, the cease-fire agreement that America secured from Turkey in its advance into Syria is about to expire. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds, our allies in the destruction of ISIS, will be subject to attack because of our unprincipled withdrawal of our military forces. For 15 days, every American with an ounce of decency in their souls has been appalled and just waiting for the slaughter of our friends in the Middle East.

. There is nothing that can be legally done to compel Donald Trump to change his mind. The only way that the Kurds could be rescued would be if Donald Trump decided that they should be.

. It appears that the only things that motivate Donald Trump are money and adulation. He seems to enjoy foreign travel and the crowds that he sees when he arrives. Then maybe just the thing that helps us.

. For years, Turkey has made clear its intent to attack to attack the Kurds if we were not there to protect them. President Trump had to know that withdrawing American forces would lead to ethnic cleansing. This makes him an accomplice to a crime against humanity.

. Suppose a foreign jurisdiction –the international criminal court or the court of some European nation-made known that it was about to indict Donald Trump for crimes against humanity. If he knew that, once he left office, he would not be able to leave the United States without facing the fear of being apprehended on a warrant for his arrest. Under any other situation, the idea of advocating a warrant for the arrest of the president of United States would be obscene and totally unacceptable. However, Trump has given us no alternative because of his barbarous behavior.

. Quick action by foreign law enforcement agencies and courts of a foreign nation or of the international criminal court may be all that stands between attorneys army bent on eliminating the Kurds and our allies being slaughtered.
