Let me respectfully suggest that modern Western intellectuals have so deeply rejected faith out of fear of some who misuse faith to control others or to excuse hate that they are left with secular humanism as their moral reference. Unfortunately, secular humanism is so Protean that it can justify any action-or inaction. This is no argument for any one faith or for any orthodoxy. It is merely to observe that our current belief set doesn’t work very well.
