Democrats-Be The Adult in the Room!
As I am dictating this in the afternoon of October 18, 2023, Jim Jordan has lost the second ballot to be elected Speaker of the House. If the country is fortunate, he will continue to lose subsequent votes, and will be forced to withdraw.
Ever since the GOP conference deposed Speaker McCarthy, I have heard many pundits discuss the possibility of Democrats negotiating with those Republicans who were at least somewhat tethered to reality about forming some type of power-sharing arrangement.
Don’t even try to do that.
Those Democrats who think they can negotiate with Republicans still believe that we are functioning in the old world of compromise and accommodation.
Wrong!
Perhaps they are too close to the situation to see, but I would suggest there are only two types of Republicans in the House of Representatives:
1. Hostages;
2. Hostage takers.
