Democrats: Change the game and win!
As of October 1, 2021, Democrats face three challenges:
· On the increase in the debt ceiling, Republicans made it clear that, even though a default would be catastrophic, they will not give one vote to help Democrats do the only responsible thing to do.
· Passing a physical infrastructure bill on which there is agreement by both parties in both houses of Congress.
· Passing a social investment bill that would provide for American citizens a level of security that citizens Western European nations have held for half a century. In spite of its popularity among voters of both parties in all sections of the country, Republicans are so committed in opposition that they will not give one vote to pass it. Progressive Democrats in the House refuse to support the physical infrastructure bill until the Senate passes the social spending bill through the reconciliation process. Senate moderates, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, balk at voting for the social infrastructure bill because they say it is too costly.
