Great post! Every Western government for 30 years insisted on seeing China as a youngster who just had to learn the ropes of riding the Western-generated boom in economic growth and personal liberty, and they would act just like Japan. Why? Because all of the leaders of those governments saw the world that way. They graduated from universities taught by those of a similar orientation. Their world views were shaped by the economic history of the twentieth century and by the horrors of nuclear war. All that governments and academia could consider is that others would be like them. They were wrong.
