I do understand that not all polyamorous relationships begin as monogamous relationships. As for polyamory being around for 30 years-I have not read of that concept for that period of time. I am fully willing to admit that may be my lack of information as opposed to the existence of the concept, per se. I do understand that relationships other than couples have existed for many years. I have no statistical information as to how long those relationships last. Given the fact that these relationships are not recognized legally, it may be very difficult to get any meaningful statistics. I am not under the illusion that my perceptions control anything or that they should control anything. But I am profoundly skeptical about how long any relationships with multiple partners can last when faced with the difficulties of life over a period of decades. Earlier, you questioned if I thought a relationship had to be lifelong in order to be valuable. I do not necessarily believe that a lifelong relationship is required, but I cannot see any benefit to the society in giving formal recognition to temporary relationships.
