I respectfully dissent from your choice of how to react to that man. Human beings are complex. They are not programmed robots. I suggest it took a lot for him to approach you at all. To do so required him to break out of his MAGA bubble. A positive response from you-even just a “thank you”- might have planted a seed which, over time, might have made him question his Orange God. Instead, you only hardened his views.
