In all fairness, he did. That ending was not catastrophic, as I feared it would be. When I pointed to 41 as a successful strategic President, I did so because he saw a problem, conceived a strategy to solve it, chose the right people to carry it out, built the required domestic and international support for it, got the job done, ended it, and didn’t yield to hubris and mission creep. Obama ended Iraq as Nixon ended Vietnam-getting the best he could out of a bad situation, ending wars that never should have been started.
