Mark, with all due respect, how can you or anyone write of the GOP and ideological coherence in the same sentence? Until the GOP convention of 2016, these beliefs were considered to be core to the GOP: a strong national defense, respect for the military, law enforcement and our intelligence services, balanced budgets, suspicion of Russia and China, keeping our alliances strong, at least expressed respect for family values and low tariffs. After the few days of the 2016 GOP convention, every one of those beliefs were not only jettisoned, but the reverse was accepted as dogma. Today’s GOP is Jim Jones at Jonestown. You should also know that, as of 2018, Gallup has 26% of Americans considering themselves as liberal and 35% as moderate. A recent study in the New York Times showed minority voters to be more concerned about economic issues, and were not permissive on immigration and lifestyle issues. You may think Twitter is America. It is not. However, I agree that Democrats need to develope a set of ideas and a program to get the plans enacted.
