What too many Americans don’t know-and the ones who know often forget-is that American citizens do not vote directly for President of the United States. The method for selecting the President was originally set out in Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution. It specified that state legislatures-not people-would specify the method for selecting the people who would be the electors.
