Society seems to be set up to reproduce the people within two standard deviations from the mean. Those at the top and bottom of the intellectual scale are not reached by a standard curriculum. There are obedient students who will strive to learn the subject matter. But for others-and even for the large group in the middle-the type of creativity you wish to nurture must be cultivated in new and different ways for each student. That requires research, training for teachers to use those techniques and a longer school day and year. And that all requires money.
