Unfortunately, my wife of 49 years would frown on my getting to know you too much better! I would hate to admit how long it took for me to begin to understand how women view interactions with men. Unfortunately, women’s fears are too often justified. On occasion, I would compliment a woman passing me by on the street. I mean a compliment-not a leer or a catcall. Many were gratefully accepted-but not all. The MeToo movement began the process of opening my eyes. I also became aware that many people-not just women-have to vent before they are ready to solve problems. I also try not to talk over women-but I have to try to do that with men, too! Most of all, I understand that people don’t often speak openly about how they feel-and why. I don’t have the answer to that. Meanwhile, I try to do my best and try to help others if they seek help.
