Thank you for your post. You gave us all an insight into the minefield black people have to navigate every day. It is interesting that you focused part of your remarks on something I, like you, truly cannot comprehend-interracial relationships where the white partner is a racist. It is obvious to people not blinding themselves that there was a tremendous amount of interracial sex during slavery, virtually all of it involuntary on her part of the black female. For Southerners who always are parading their religiosity in opposition to what they claim are Godless Northerners, I have but one question: did you ever read Leviticus 18:23: Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.” If the black women weren’t animals, how could slavery be rationalized? Whether during slavery or after, how can relations with a non-person (or 3/5 of a person) ever be right? Even if it were one in a million, there must have been some relationship where there was affection as part of the mix. How could two people make love without making slavery unbearable? As for the last 150 years, even more, how is treatment of anyone as less than equal not destroying the soul?
