The truly terrible thing is that we certainly had to get rid of al-Queda after 9/11. Al-Queda and the Taliban were different. One of the persons on today’s “Morning Joe” said the Taliban had offered a truce and to allow us to get al-Queda after 9/11. He said that Rumsfeld rejected this and demanded unconditional surrender of the Taliban. That is worse than his failure to use maximum force to trap snd kill bin Ladin at Tora Bora in 2001.
