You wrote a truly insightful analysis of our current problems. Isn’t it truly ironic that Southern elites have historically used racism to unite whites against blacks under the banner of a supposed shared superiority, but now national elites use racism to divide the races with a different approach-white guilt-but for the same purpose-division! There was a recent article in The New Republic which showed that, although the gap between overall black family income and white family income has basically remained constant, that figure alone hides the fact that a segment of Afro-American families has greatly gained in income, but many white families have slipped below the middle class. The end result is bad, but strengthens the case for cross-racial political action.
